Inlays - RisksThe risk of side effects or complications is normally very low when the material is installed professionally, but they cannot be completely ruled out.11 Serious health risks are not known.12
The substances employed are normally very biocompatible. Ceramic cannot dissolve and is therefore only somewhat biologically compatible. Due to the sturdiness of the material, it is possible for opposing teeth to be damaged.13 Inlays made of gold are likewise very biocompatible, but exhibit increased heat and cold transference to the tooth.14
In the case of galvanic inlays, it is possible for the ceramic sheathing to chip. In very rare cases, allergic reactions to the installed materials are experienced. Your dentist will be happy to discuss your personal risk situation in a private conversation.
