Dentures - RisksThe greatest risks for a removable dental replacement lie in its handling. Regular and thorough cleaning are the most important preconditions for lasting enjoyment of your prosthesis. Incomplete oral hygiene can lead to algesia in the teeth or gums. Changes to the gums near the cheek or the bottom of the mouth can indicate the results of an inflammation. Pains in the area of the temporomandibular joint can also arise.6
The prosthesis should otherwise always be handled carefully. Turning or tipping movements should be avoided because the dental replacement can bend or even break as a result. This can lead to damage of the soft parts in some cases. In the worst case, a piece of the broken-off prosthesis gravitates into either the trachea or esophagus and is correspondingly inhaled or swallowed.7
The doctor who is treating you will clarify these and further possible risks.
