Cataract | Pearl Eye - Preparation

Prior to the operation a number of preliminary examinations must be conducted. These normally include, among others,

  • a measurement of intraocular pressure,
  • a slit lamp examination (stereoscopic magnification of the eye),
  • a fundoscopy (examination of the back part of the eye's interior),
  • an ultrasonic measurement of the eye, and
  • a determination of the refractive value for the artificial lens.4

In this way the strength of the future lens can be calculated such that improved close-range or distant vision is possible. 3-4 hours should be planned for the preliminary examination; the driving of automobiles should not be undertaken afterwards due to the necessary pupil enlargement.

In some cases (at the surgeon's discretion) eyedrops or ointments may be administered in the days prior to the operation. Eye cosmetics should not be used in the 24 hours prior to the operation.

You should clarify any other possible preliminary measures that need to be taken in a preparatory conversation with your doctor. You should also be examined in order to determine your suitability for the procedure. This will allow you to address your personal situation and develop an individual treatment plan.
