LASEK - Aftercare

In the first post-operative hours, patients experience minimal discomfort in the form of burning; sometimes increased tear fluid is also released.

To guarantee an optimal healing process, the eyes should be held shut for the first 3-5 hours after the operation. In the first 3-4 days, the patient should only expose him/herself to intensive sunlight or strong wind when wearing protective goggles. In the time immediately following the operation, antiobiotic eyedrops must also be applied. However, the risk of cicatrisation is small.⁵

Light sports activities should be possible just 4-5 days after the operation. More intensive sports activities as well as visits to a swimming pool or the like are typically possible once again after a few weeks.⁶

To guarantee optimal results, check-up examinations should be conducted by an eye specialist at regular intervals after the operation.
