LASIK - AftercareThe first inspection of your eyesight usually occurs under a slit lamp one hour after the operation. The slit lesion on the edge of the flap will heal after a few hours. Within the first few postoperative hours, patients experience minor pain in the form of burning; increased tear fluid is sometimes also released.
In order to ensure optimal healing for the corneal disc, the eyes should be held closed for the first 3-5 hours after the operation. In the first 3-4 days after the operation, intensive sunlight or strong wind will require you to wear protective goggles. Moreover, during the first week after the operation, antibiotic eyedrops must be administered; however, the risk of cicatrisation is fairly slim.8
Light physical activity is possible again 4-5 days after the operation. Intensive athletic activities such as swimming and other similar sports are permissible after the flap is fully attached, i.e. usually after a few weeks.9
In order to ensure optimal results, check-up examinations should be conducted by an eye specialist at regularly scheduled intervals.
It should be noted that aftercare activities depend heavily on your individual situation; please speak with your doctor.
