Cardiac Catheter - AftercareThe compression bandage applied directly following treatment is removed after 6-24 hours. During this time, complete bedrest will be imposed on you in order to guarantee the secure sealing of the access artery. The compression bandage is then replaced with a local medical bandage. After removal of the compression bandage, you can stand up again slowly; showering is possible on the following day. You may leave the clinic after 1-2 days. Balloon dilatation and stent implantation both require that you take blood-thinning medications for about 4 weeks. After 1 week you can take up sports activities again. Please avoid lifting and carrying heavy objects in the first days after the procedure. Stent implants should be checked by a doctor at regular intervals.5,9,10
