Pacemaker Implantation - Risks

The implantation of a pacemaker is a relatively small-scale and uncomplicated surgical operation with a rather low risk potential.
After the operation, blood effusions in the area of the wound can occur, which would require the pacemaker to eventually be taken out again. Wound infections may require the complete replacement of the pacemaker system if the heart no longer reacts to the device's impulse. The introduction of the electrode into the right ventricle can cause irritation of the heart which, in very rare cases, may lead to ventricular fibrillation or unconsciousness. Blood clot formations and arterial closures may also occur. Cases of over-sensitivity to the medication used for local anesthesia have also been registered.3

The doctor who is treating you will gladly clarify these and further possible risks.
