Hip Replacement - PreparationIf you have decided to undergo a hip joint operation, a thorough health check should take place beforehand. Blood and urine probes, an ECG (electrocardiogram) analysis, and a set of orthopedic tests are indispensable for the planning of the operation and the creation of the prosthesis. The skin in the hip and thigh areas should be free of infections. Please let your doctor know about all kinds of medication you are taking at the time. Medications that inhibit blood clotting should no longer be taken 14 days before the procedure. If you are seriously overweight, it may be necessary to reduce your weight prior to the operation in order to ensure easy access to the hip and thigh bones.
Because your mobility will be significantly restricted in the first post-operative days and possibly weeks, it would be sensible to find someone to help you around the house and with daily activities such as showering and bathing.2
Please speak with your doctor about further possible preparatory measures in detail.
