Spinal Disc Replacement - Risks

As with every operative procedure that is performed using general anesthesia, the implantation of a spinal disc prosthesis harbors a number of risks.

During the procedure, there may be nerve injuries as well as injuries to the vertebral bodies to which the new spinal disc is attached. There is also the possibility of bleeding or infection. Furthermore, components of the spinal disc replacement may break or the implant may slip. The foreign material in your body may cause sensitivity reactions. A further possible complication is insufficient pain reduction as a result of the procedure.5
The doctor who is treating you will gladly clarify these and further possible risks.
