Vertebroplasty - Aftercare

After the conclusion of treatment, bedrest should be observed for a certain time. The exact length of bedrest depends on the medications administered, the cement used, and the localisation and extent of the illness. The length can last from 1 to 24 hours. After the prescribed bedrest follows rapid mobilisation with the aid of a physical therapist until you are able to bear the full load of your body weight.

Most doctors recommend a one-day inpatient stay in the clinic upon the conclusion of a vertebroplasty. Among other things, this allows for a focused reaction to pains which arise in particular cases. 2,7 In the majority of cases, a distinctly noticeable reduction in pain is felt just 24 hours after the operation, or even earlier. 10 After you have been released from the clinic, you should undergo CT checkups at regular intervals. General osteoporosis checkups are an important component of aftertreatment - through corresponding medicinal aftercare measures e.g. with calcium or vitamin D, the solidity of the bones can be improved. 7,11

Please speak with the doctor who is treating you about further individual aftercare measures explicitly.
