Vertebroplasty - PreparationPrior to a vertebroplasty, the doctor must critically examine the situation and determine whether such treatment is plausible in your case. This entails an examination of your blood levels and general laboratory work. Your blood coagulation should not be irregular. Please be absolutely sure to inform your doctor about existing allergies as well as any medications that you take on a regular basis.7
For example, if you have an allergy to the components necessary for the process, the procedure cannot be performed. Additionally, you should not be suffering from either an inflammation of the bones (floride osteomyelitis) or an inflammation of the spinal disc (spondylodiscitis).2
Furthermore, a computer tomography examination should be made of the affected section of the spine. Magnetic resonance tomography (MRT) may also be necessary in order to clearly distinguish an osteoporotic fracture from a fracture caused due to the existence of a tumor.7
Please speak explicitly with your doctor about potentially necessary preparatory measures.
