Buttock Contouring - MethodsWhether and which form of posterior correction is right for you depends on your initial individual situation. Basically, the buttocks can be reduced, lifted, or augmented.
A reduction of the buttocks is performed when excess fat has been deposited in the posterior area. This fat is most commonly removed via liposuction.1 Loose skin areas are smoothed as desired through the removal of excess skin and tautening (lifting) of the remaining skin. Solid posterior musculature is a requirement for liposuction in combination with a tautening of the skin (posterior modelling).2 Augmentation comes into play if your posterior is too flat. This can have many causes; for example, simple underdevelopment of the butt muscles or insufficient posterior fat. Moreover, a flat posterior sometimes appears to be too wide. According to the modern sense of beauty, the ideal butt should be apple-shaped; hence, the plastic-aesthetic surgeon will install corresponding posterior implants. As an alternative to implants, transplantation of one’s own body fat is also possible. The method is often applied to lower regions of the buttocks because the installation of implants in these areas could injure important nerves.
Implants or the injection of one’s own body fat are often performed in the sense of lifting: when the posterior lacks tautness, the skin hangs down loosely.3,4,5
Transplantation of one’s own body fat can also be executed in many cases, achieving a well-formed and well-proportioned posterior.6
The above-named methods can also be combined with each other, depending on the initial situation.
