Eyelid Correction - Preparation

You should clarify whether you are a suitable candidate for an eyelid lift in a preparatory conversation with your doctor. This would generally not be the case if you have heart or blood circulation problems or tend to bleed profusely. It is also important to mention that for a few patients, drooping eyelids are caused or intensified by tissue slackening in the forehead area. In these cases, optimal cosmetic results can only be obtained in combination with a preceding forehead-brow-lift. Prior to the procedure, you should be examined by your doctor. During this examination, possible impairments to your field of vision as well as the ocular fundus (the concave interior of the eye) will be determined.3

Other comprehensive preparatory measures are typically not necessary for an eyelid lift. You should refrain from smoking - especially for lower eyelid corrective procedures - at least one week prior to the operation. Aspirin and other blood coagulation medications should not be taken 10-14 days before the procedure in order to reduce the risk of bleeding as much as possible.4

Alcohol consumption and the use of sleep aids are also not beneficial during the preparatory phase. On the day of the procedure you should be well-rested; do not apply any cosmetics. If possible, you should bring a pair of sunglasses.5
