If the operation was in-patient and conducted using local anaesthesia, you may return home escorted directly after the procedure. You should refrain from driving a car in the first few hours.15 Immediately following the operation, small pains and bruises may arise. However, these typically recede after a few weeks. Swelling in the area of the treated places is quite normal and disappears after about three months.

It is sensible to undergo a check-up examination with your doctor after about a week, at which point the stitches may also be removed. For at least six weeks you should wear support stockings, pants with a banded waist, or bandages at all times in order to optimise the later results.¹⁶ You should refrain from strenuous sports activities as well as other physically demanding activities in the first post-operative weeks.¹⁷
