Liposuction - RisksIn the hands of educated specialists, complications are rather rare. Yet there are certain risks that you should be aware of. For example, there may be inconsistencies and sagging in the skin after the operation. These asymmetries can generally be corrected in a further procedure. Movement irritation due to split nerves can similarly occur in rare cases. The color of the skin (pigmentation) can change and swelling as well as bruising can arise (haematoma), which generally recede after a few weeks to a few months.20
When removing large amounts of fatty tissue, an increased loss in tissue fluid or blood may occur, which can be compensated for by infusions or blood preservation.
A further possible complication is inflammation of the resulting scars, which can lead to an uneven contour. Should these not disappear or recede after a few months, a further, small-scale operative procedure can be performed.21
Your doctor should clarify these and other risks as well as your personal risk situation in a private conversation.
