Skin Correction - RisksAfter laser treatment or peeling, reddening and light swelling are possible; these generally recede soon after.
Among the most common complications is mispigmentation. These are the result of either premature or overly intensive exposure to natural or artificial sunlight. The risk of mispigmentation is greater for darker complexions. Infections can form underneath the scab which must then be handled using antibiotics. The resulting crust should not be scratched off under any circumstances, otherwise scars may form. The risk that scars may form despite good aftertreatment measures still exists, but is rather low.
After laser treatment, a herpes infection may occur in very rare cases. Antiviral medications can be prescribed as a prophylactic against this.
In a peeling treatment it may occur that the peeling substance penetrates into the skin deeper than desired and thus causes the deeper layers of skin to also suffer. One consequence of this may be the formation of scar-like changes. Damage to the kidneys, liver, and circulation due to the acid used is likewise possible.5,7,10
