Sweat Gland Removal - Preparation

Prior to the operative removal of sweat glands, hyperhidrosis must first be diagnosed. After your doctor acquires information in a preliminary conversation, this occurs with the aid of a measurement of sweat production (the capturing of sweat using suction-capable filter paper and subsequent measurement of the amount) and/or surface measurement. In a surface measurement, iodine, starch, and chloride ions in the sweat are made visible using colors such that the extent of hyperhidrotic area can be localised. In this way, one can determine the exact location of where the sweat glands need to be removed. 5

The suction or excision of sweat glands is generally performed using local anaesthesia, so no special preparatory measures are necessary. Nonetheless, it is an operative procedure in which incisions must be made and wounds have to heal; therefore, you should refrain from consuming alcohol and nicotine 14 days before the procedure. Additionally, medications which inhibit blood clotting (e.g. aspirin) should not be taken during this time period. For procedures in the axillary area, the armpit hair is removed prior to the procedure. For the operative treatment of the sympathetic nervous system, you should be in good physical shape and should not be suffering from pre-existing conditions.

Please speak with your doctor explicitly about further potential preparatory measures.
