Sweat Gland Removal - Results

The sweat gland suction curettage represents a gentle, minimally invasive procedure for a reduction in one's tendency to sweat. Patients generally feel a marked reduction in sweat secretion after just a few days. However, please be aware that sweat production cannot be completely "turned off". There is also the danger that increased sweat production may resume at some point. However, the procedure can be repeated at any time if success is not achieved to the extent desired. Treatment is pain-free in typical cases and leaves behind scarcely visible scars. 6

The excision of sweat glands is a more intensive procedure which usually leaves visible scars. This, too, can achieve a marked reduction in sweat secretion, but cannot completely remove all sweat glands due to the large surface area of the wounds.

Through blocking, severance, or partial removal of the sympathetic nerve system, drainage of the affected region can be achieved. An undesirable side effect of the operation is, however, the previously mentioned compensatory sweating. Where exactly this occurs is unfortunately not always precisely predictable. This side effect can sometimes be felt to be very irritating. One should therefore be aware in advance about whether one wishes to take an equalisation reaction in exchange for the drainage of a particular region into account. 7
