Tummy Tuck - PreparationIn a preliminary conversation with the doctor who is treating you, you should clarify whether you are a suitable candidate for the procedure. For a successful operational outcome, sufficient skin and sub-dermal fatty tissue must be present in the upper abdomen. The procedure is not advisable for patients who suffer from diabetes, lung disease, or bowel irregularities. Because the treatment does not primarily address fat reduction, patients who have localised excess fat but still have taut skin are also not suitable for the procedure.6
If you are appropriate for the procedure, the operational method as well as the type of incision will be discussed in terms of the extent of the skin excess as well as your personal wishes.7
A further prerequisite for a successful operation is that the patient have a relatively fit overall constitution; the operation places a high load on the body, which is better carried by a stable immune system. It is therefore recommended that 2-3 months (at the latest) before the operation is scheduled, you begin light fitness activities such as jogging or bicycling and maintain a moderate diet. Excessive weight loss within the last 3-4 weeks prior to the operation should be avoided.8
Your doctor will clarify any further possible preparatory measures in greater detail.
