Wrinkle Correction - Risks

Occasionally after treatment with botulinum toxin, e.g. by the injection of Botox®, there may be cases of temporary redness and swelling at the injection sites or in rather rare cases, bruising (hematomae). However, by cooling these places immediately after treatment, these side effects can reduced. Additionally, sensations of pressure or mild headaches may occur in some cases. Undesired side effects can occur, but are typically temporary and fully reversible.¹⁷

Among these are, for example, the weakening of neighboring muscle clusters or hanging eyelids. Such side effects are typically due to unprofessional execution of the treatment procedure involving such things as excessive dosages or improper injection placement. Such cases are rare and typically dissolve as soon as the medication has been broken down by the body.^18,19

The application of botulinumtoxin A for the correction of mimetic wrinkles, when explained and executed professionally, is regarded as an effective and safe method of treatment.²⁰
